Top 10 Romantic Comedies

One of my simple pleasures in life is sitting down to watch a movie. Our whole family has always been into movies. Back in the good ol’ days when you could actually go to a movie theatre, we would be there anytime something sparked our fancy. We’d all pile in the car, complete with purses full of Red Vines, Sour Patch Watermelon, M&M’s, Sugar Babies and Skittles to avoid the outrageous theatre prices and to ensure we had our candy just in case our begging for candy didn’t quite work. I know what you’re all thinking; yes, my mom kept our pantry stocked with all kinds of candy for this very reason! We would get to the theatre and would be immediately smacked with the mouth-watering buttered popcorn smell that was simply irresistible. Sitting in a dark room with a massive screen and surround sound is enough to immerse yourself into the story and leave behind your own world for a different one, at least for a couple hours; that’s what I’ve always loved about movies.

One of the most popular and well-loved genres is Romantic Comedy. No matter what, you know you’re in for: a light-hearted, funny, sweet movie; save, a few twists and turns along the way. The eccentric best friend, the unexpected love interest, the over-protective parent, the ex that gets in the way, mixed in with classic one-liners and hilarious banter, the grand gesture accompanied by an epic first kiss; all wrapped up in the happily-ever-after ending. Typical elements that make a Rom Com a Rom Com and man, are they great to watch! Being that it's February, the month of love, I’ve decided to list ten of my most favorite Romantic Comedy movies.

Disclaimer: there are so many incredible Rom Coms out there. The ones I am listing (in no particular order) are those movies that I simply cannot bring myself to skip over if it’s playing on TV or say no to! It's a mixed bag of movies from the recent 2010s to the early 2000s to the 90s and even throwing it back to the 50s.

1. Hitch

2. The Proposal

3. Return to Me

4. Bridget Jones’s Diary

5. Long Shot

6. While You Were Sleeping

7. Bridesmaids

8. 10 things I hate About You

9. How to Marry a Millionaire

10. Just Go with It

These movies always bring a smile to my face. No matter how many times I’ve seen them and trust me, I’ve seen them more times than I care to admit; they just never get old! If you haven’t seen any of these movies that are listed, I give them all a two thumbs way up and recommend you whip out that yummy candy, dig your hands in that bowl of delicious buttered popcorn, turn down the lights and give them a watch!

And that’s the dirt!
